mix tape for a lover

Inspired by an episode of Portlandia, this piece represents a death grip on the 80’s and 90’s. It was in this period that the greatest expression of love may have been making a mix tape for your lover.

As with all my projects, this one came with a lesson. I arrived at my studio one morning after I completed the sculpture to find the top of the hand, broken along the top of wrist, laying on the table adjacent to the armature and board. Not as terrible to repair as you might think. A new threaded rod inserted through the wrist and bent up into the hand did the trick.
