pique exhaustion
I was inspired to create this piece after I summitted 14,000+ foot Mt. Langley on the crest of the Sierra Nevada. Near the top, I was taking about 10 steps before I had to pause for a rest… I’ll blame the low oxygen levels, not my possible lack of fitness… I was at a higher altitude than a Cessna 175 can fly. When I reached the top, I did not feel like the stereotypical, sculpted figure with arms outstretched, face to the sky, basking in his own greatness. I was impressed with the view and proud of the acheivement, but mostly, I was exhausted. I mean I was spent. I had nothing left in the tank. Pick your own analogy.
For me, sculpture is a medium through which I want to express real emotion: a note taken from the story of Auguste Rodin. Those who have acheived something that took them to the edge of their ability, hopefully will relate to this piece.
The title is a play on words that stems from my own desire when I see a mountain, to climb it. My piqued interest in Mt. Langley pushed me to the edge.
